In 2018-19, The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona funded 88 grants totalling $177,822 for students in a variety of vocational education programs.  That is over 14% more scholars helped, but only a little over 7% more in financial support provided.  The fact is, that if we had more donated support, we could have done much more in both areas.  There were two periods of time last year when budgetary constraints caused us to stop accepting new grant applications for programs with start dates prior to the first day of the next calendar quarter.  Demand for our grants has been steadily growing.  More than a year ago, we had to drop our maximum grant from $3,000 to $2,000 so that we could help more students.

TRVFA is a qualifying charitable organization to receive tax credit donations in the State of Arizona.  Because it is the only Rotary founded, Rotarian managed and Rotary International endorsed tax-credit opportunity in Arizona, it is disappointing that fewer than 10% of Rotarians in the state take advantage of the opportunity to save money on their state tax obligation while providing funding for this successful and unique-to-Arizona Vocational Service opportunity.

There are other ways that Rotarians might want to consider support of TRVFA.  There are likely some Rotarians who have reached the age where they are required to take withdrawals from their IRA accounts.  If they do not need the additional income to meet their cost of living, and would prefer not to pay tax on the additional income, they might want to talk to their financial advisor about directed withdrawals that would go directly to TRVFA.

Rotary Clubs may have funds in their charitable foundations or revenue from fundraising events that they would like to donate to allow additional scholars to be funded and or allow us to eventually restore our maximum grant to $3,000.

The only thing that will slow us down is lack of funding.  We thank you for your support in the past.  We sincerely hope we can count on your support going forward.  Board members are glad to made presentations at Rotary Clubs, but word of mouth from proud donors can grow our reach not only within our clubs but beyond Rotary, as well.  In addition to your financial support, we hope you will advocate for support of TRVFA with your club members, friends, family, and business associates.
